Republic of Congo – Nouabal-Ndoki National Park
Tracking gorillas in NNNP is fun and arduous. I went out with the
Ba’Aka trackers at the crack of dawn each morning (who run, not walk)
who used machetes to swash buckle our way through dense undergrowth,
thick forest, and swamps without missing a beat. By the end of
each trek, my clothes would be ripped and torn, and my body bloody
from scrapes and scratches. It was awesome!!
An enormous silverback gorilla and his son in a row? When they
stand upright, silverbacks, who are the male leaders of their groups
(“troops”), are from 5.5 to 6 feet tall and weight as much as 350
pounds…such as this fellow.
